CATALOG METHODOLOGY

What the directory knows—and what it does not.

WORLD organizes public directory metadata and playable sources into a navigable globe. A catalog entry is a lead to a live service, not a guarantee that a third-party stream is online at this moment.

Last updated:

Sources and ownership

Radio records primarily come from Radio Browser, with a small set of manually maintained alternatives. Television records primarily come from IPTV-org, supplemented by selected official broadcaster sources. GeoNames and open map datasets provide place and boundary information.

WORLD does not claim ownership of broadcaster names, logos, streams or programming. Source attribution and license information are maintained on Sources & Credits.

Radio inclusion

The public SEO catalog currently includes radio entries whose stored status reports a working source and whose playback URL uses HTTPS. For Radio Browser entries, that status originates upstream at synchronization time. A label such as “upstream status: reported online” does not mean WORLD tested the stream during your current visit.

Country guides require at least 180 playable catalog entries, 40 reliably located entries, language metadata for 50 entries and at least 1 qualifying city. These thresholds limit indexable pages; they are not editorial claims about a country's radio industry.

City matching

A station can appear in a city guide only when the source provides coordinates, the station matches one of the project's primary catalog cities and the calculated distance is no more than 25 kilometres. A match describes catalog geography, not a licensed broadcast coverage area.

City guides require at least 8 matching entries. Incorrect locations can be reported through the Contact / Report page.

Television inclusion

A television entry is considered useful when it has a browser-compatible embedded source or an official viewing URL. “Source check passed” describes the latest stored result for a stream or curated source; “source availability not confirmed” is shown when the catalog does not have a successful check. Region restrictions and broadcaster changes can still prevent playback.

Country guides use minimum catalog-depth thresholds of 50 channel entries, 40 entries with a stored source check and 40 browser-compatible entries. International and language-specific feeds may be associated with the country used by the source directory; that association is not a claim about the channel's entire audience or editorial origin.

Ordering, filters and recommendations

Directory ordering is deterministic. It favours usable sources, relevant country or city matches and more complete metadata; it may also use source popularity signals as a tie-breaker. Listings are not ranked in exchange for payment. Search, category and language filters operate only on available catalog fields, which may be incomplete or supplied by third parties.

Freshness and corrections

The repository stores snapshots rather than querying every source during every page view. It does not promise a fixed public refresh interval. Each card shows the stored check date when one is available so visitors can judge freshness.

Reports should identify the station or channel, page URL and a reliable correction source where possible. WORLD can remove, correct or reclassify an entry after review.
